The new rules for DTH operators by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) come into effect on February 1. Furthermore, with January 31 being the new deadline for customers to choose the channels for which they want to pay.

With the new rules, customers now have to pay only for the channels which they want to watch. Many DTH operators like Airtel, VideoconD2h, etc have already provided a list of channel pricing on their website. TRAI says the idea with the new scheme is that consumers will also be able to choose to pay for channels of their choice on a-la-carte basis.

TRAI has now launched a web application for DTH and cable TV subscribers to let them preview their new subscription packs and prices. This lets customers create their desired tarrif pack. The whole process is similar to making a grocery list, towards the end of which, we get the total price. Also, you can print the same list to hand out to your DTH operator.

To use the TRAI web application click here.

The application asks for your region, prefered languages, channel genres, channel quality and custom choices to give custom prices. Subscription to basic 25 channels is mandatory which includes regional DD channels.

Please note that this is just for trial. To actually subscribe to the new channels, the user will have to contact the service providers.
