The new Realme X with a pop-up camera

The newest mid-range flagship offering by Oppo-spinoff Realme is the Realme X. Coming in at a fairly decent price of Rs. 16,999, the Realme X offers some pretty decent features for a phone at that price. It slots right into an uber-competitive mid-range segment of smartphone devices that offer plenty of bang for the buck.

But the question here is if the Realme X is worth its price. Let’s find out

The Realme X has a 6.53-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2340 X 1080p. The slim bezels on the phone give it a 91.2% screen-to-body ratio. The device is powered by a 2.2Ghz octa-core Snapdragon 710 SoC.

The phone will be available in two RAM options: 4GB, and 8GB and both the RAM variants come with UFS 2.1 flash storage and 128GB of internal memory.

Moving to the camera department, the Realme X has dual camera setup at the rear with a 48MP+5MP Sony IMX586 sensor. The 48MP sensor has an f/1.7 lens and the 5MP sensor comes with an f/2.4 lens. Realme X also has a pop-up front camera. The pop-up camera is an AI-enabled Sony IMX471 sensor that captures 16MP shots.

Phones from Chinese manufacturers like Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi are infamous for using their custom skins and the Realme X is no different as it runs on the latest version of ColorOS 6 based on Android 9 Pie.

The phone houses a 3,765mAh battery and uses Oppo’s superfast VOOC Flash Charge 3.0

One of the highlights of the Realme X is its 6.53-inch notchless AMOLED display. Because of the pop-up camera, you get more real estate on the front of the device and no hole-punches or camera cut-outs make it a seamless experience to enjoy the big display. Because it is an AMOLED display, you will have a very vibrant display and see deep blacks.

The design of the phone is quite similar to a few recently-launched devices. It has a gradient finish on the back. However, the back of the device only looks like glass but is actually plastic. This can be a deal breaker for people looking to enjoy holding a flagship quality device.

The smartphone also offers an in-display fingerprint sensor, which makes it the first phone from the company to support it. Additionally, you also get face unlock, courtesy of the pop-up camera which rises and goes down in a very fast motion.

You also get the option to choose from two attractive gradient options: Space Blue and Polar White.

Is the Realme X worth it?

Every smartphone is subject to comparisons. Some obvious comparisons for the Realme X can be made with the Vivo Z1 Pro and the upcoming Redmi K20. All three devices fall in a similar price bracket and offer similar features. Both the Vivo Z1 Pro and the Redmi K20 sport triple-camera setups whereas the Realme X only has a dual-camera setup. However, the Vivo Z1 Pro has a hole-punch camera in the top-left corner of the screen and the Redmi K20’s pop-up camera is way slower as compared to the Realme X.

The Realme X comes in two storage options and both are priced as mid-range offerings. The base model has 4GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage and is priced at Rs. 16,999. The second variant comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage which costs Rs. 19,999.

You can buy the phone from Flipkart and starting 18th July in a sale touted as the “Hate-to-wait” sale.
